ENGINE MOUNT REPLACEMENT TORQUE ARM

[9000]

NOTE: A special Thanks goes to HARTLEY NEMEROV as he was the gentleman kind enough to contribute this information to the site. It is guys like him that make doing these jobs easier for all of us. Thanks Hartley!!!

Tools & supplies needed: 14 and 17 MM sockets, Rubber Mallet, Saws All (reciprocal saw) with blade for metal (Aluminum) I guess you could use a hacksaw but the Saws All takes only a minute), Pry Bar, Two 3 piece soft neoprene bushing kits (PART #7577554U). Click here for the parts pricing!

This method retains the original upper engine mount brackets and the neoprene kits seem to be superior to the original equipment and probably outlast them.

Step 1. Remove the 17mm nut and 14mm bolt from the motor mount attached to the engine block.
Step 2. Remove the 14mm bolt from the motor mount attached to the firewall.
Step 3. With a pry bar work the firewall mount and bracket free. You may need to help it gently with a rubber mallet. Use caution not to press against the oil filler assembly.
Step 4. Place the bracket in a vise and use the Saws All to cut through the thin aluminum cylinder that surrounds the rubber bushing. You may have to cut the rubber portion out first. (I did not because the rubber bushing was torn enough to fit the blade in). Once the cylinder is cut through once it will slide out of the bracket.
Step 5. Place the neoprene bushings in the bracket centered and then place the metal center through both halves. You may need to coat the parts with some liquid dish soap so they slide in with ease.
Step 6. Back at the car cut the second bushing cylinder the same as the first. This bracket does not have to be removed from the engine block the Saws All will cut it while it is in place. Slide out the old bushing once the cylinder is cut and replace with the new neoprene one the same as #5 above.
Work the firewall bracket back into place using the rubber mallet and pry bar if necessary.
Step 7. Replace the bolts in the reverse order that you removed them (Firewall first). You may need the pry bar to help line up the second bolt. Tighten the bolts.
Step 8. This entire job should take under an hour.
