REMOVING ALTERNATORS ---SAAB 9000 4 CYLINDER MODELS ALTERNATORS

STEP 1 Jack car up at right front & Disconnect negative battery cable
STEP 2 Use two jack stands up front for safety
STEP 3 Remove front right wheel
STEP 4 Remove front right plastic wheel housing. 2 pieces.
STEP 5 More room can be made by moving the power steering reservoir and DISCONNECTING HOSES.
STEP 6 Remove top motor mount and motor mount bracket (on cylinder head and on the shock tower)
STEP 7 Fabricate a bracket with a shape like this [ to hold back the belt tensioner
STEP 8 Remove belt with that bracket on the belt tensioner
STEP 9 Remove alternator cables (insulate to prevent short to ground)
STEP 10 Use Allen wrench from the side of the wheel housing to remove alternator bolt 1
STEP 11 Remove second lower alternator bolt
STEP 12 Take the alternator out going upward. There is just enough room to pass by that steel line there
STEP 13 There is not quite enough room to go through the wheel housing without much difficulty !
STEP 14 Then you're fine to do what ever you have to do to your alternator.
STEP 15 Assemble everything in reverse order. A good time to replace your belt. Save old one as Emergency spare. They tend to break at the worst of times. Be prepared with a spare

Mark Smallman contributed this information. Thanks Mark!

Warning!I had no room to take the alternator out. It is easier when alternator is free to use a second jack and carefully jack the wishbone up until the is enough room to take alternator out via the wheel well.
