ABOUT THE SAAB 95

[95]

For years Swedish automobiles have been known for their "Quirks". Those "Quirks" however have been overlooked by the Saab enthusiast in favor of the many unusual features that Saab manages to throw in with each new vehicle introduction. This is no different when considering the introduction of the newest edition in the Saab family, the 95. This Swedish dynamo has GM appeal while keeping the Saab faithful loyal as well. Not only is this car a genuine Saab it is also the safest one ever built! Saab designers took the platform of the 9000 and modified it by making it much more rigid as well as elongating the crumple zones which allowed them to absorb impact in 5 stages. The typical Saab look remains primarily due to the sharp front-end profile that has a drag co-efficient of 0.29(best in its class)! The Cargo space that has been incorporated into the 9 5 approaches 16 cubic feet & is also the best in its class! Some of the newest added features of the 95 are listed below:

Side impact airbags
Active headrest that move up & forward in the event of collision
Ventilated seats (available in the V6 models)
Tilt & Telescoping steering wheel
Built in Cup holders! SAAB NUTS will appreciated this one!
Air conditioned glove box (capable of cooling to app. 42 degrees)
Dual Climate control (allows driver & passenger to control temperature)
A V6 Turbocharged engine 230 Horsepower(7.3 second 0-60) Automatic only?
A 2.3 Liter Turbocharged engine boosting 170 Horsepower(8.0 second 0-60)

GM Influence on the Saab 95?

Although GM influence is obvious it is also obvious that they are allowing Saab to continue to meet the demands of their faithful followers! The bottom line is that the new 95 (introduced in 1999) is indeed the best vehicle that Saab has ever produced! From the fit and finish to the overall performance of this vehicle it is obvious that Saab cars did their homework on this one!

What an Saab AERO owner says?

"You should update this to include information about the master Saab, the Aero. This 2.3 liter HOT (High Output Turbo) engine, also cranks out 230 HP like the 6-cylinder, and goes 0-60 in the mid to high 6 second range. Who needs the fuel guzzling 6? Give me the Aero, which by the way, comes with the ventilated seats standard" We figured we should add this also!!!! The 2003 models even have 250 HP!

Saab 95 gain a completely different look. A much more BMW-like rear and a rounded chrome surround headlight look. They also gain a navigation system.

NOTE: Literature shows that the overboost function on the AEROs equipped with a manual transmission (5-spd) have an "overboost function" that provide drivers with up to 272 lb-ft of torque for 20 seconds. All the driver needs to do is floor the pedal and remember to shift! 0-60 runs are possible in under 6.6 seconds. This is a great added feature.

In 2004-2005 the Arc received a 220 hp version of the 4-cyl B235 engine, instead of the V-6. This 4-cyl engine utilizes the Mitsubishi TD-04 turbo, the same as in the Aero. It is a very reliable turbo, unlike the Garrett used in the base Linear model (185 hp).

2008 9-5: 2.3T and Aero trims feature IDENTICAL standard features and options with the exception that the Aero has a lowered, sport-tuned chassis, two-tone interior, and brushed aluminum accents instead of burled
walnut. The (standard on both!) 2.3 HOT now pumps out 260HP/258lb-ft. The V6 is no longer available.
