DOOR RATTLE WHEN CLOSING

[95]

If your door seems to rattle very loud when you shut it the problem is a likely issue with weatherstrip falling out of the door track on the left side. This seems to be a common issue and can be repaired with basically no cost at all. Follow the directions below:

[There is an airbag sensor in the driver's door so be careful. Folks on other sites suggest disconnecting the battery to avoid any chance of deploying the airbag. Another possibility is just pulling the airbag fuse (along with the fuse for interior lights to avoid draining the battery while you work with the door open.]

Grab the mouldings around the door panel and gently and evenly pull them out. If you don't pull them evenly they will crack

Do the same for the mirror switches [and be extra careful not to crack/split the thin piece that extends below the mirror switch. It will separate from the lower piece much easier than the upper/lower pieces on the side of the door without the mirror. Note that you are removing all of the black moulding, not just the lower pieces.

Once you remove the door panel . . . you need to carefully peel back the gray vapor barrier (plastic sheet). Do not tear it! Use a hair dryer to heat up the glue and it will peel back fairly easily. WHen you reassemble, use the hairdryer again to soften the glue and rebond the plastic sheet.

Photo breakdown and information is below:

Remove the 3 screws (where the white dots are in the pic). They are all torx screws

Once the mouldings around the doors has been removed you can pull the door panel off the door body by evenly pulling it back with even pressure from the left and right side of the panel. You will notice clips holding the panel to the door. Once you remove it you will expose the wire connectors for the gas and trunk buttons. Remove those wires

Once you remove the door panel put your hand down in the bottom of the inner door and you will find the rubber weatherstrip that is SUPPOSED to be in the left window tract. Raise up the window, insert the moulding back into the window track as a test only. The moulding actually goes into the track with the thicker section pointing towards the driver seat. One thing you will want to watch when re-installing the weatherstrip is that it MUST be pushed up to high enough that the window does not hit the top of it when you let the window down. This is what cause the moulding to fall down in the first place. What I recommend is to glue the moulding in with something like shoe-goo. Once some type of glue on the back of the moulding then you can slide it up to just above the window when up. The glue will dry in that spot and keep the moulding from coming down again.

Refit the door panel and re-install the mouldings. Let the glue dry and you should be good to go
