In most cases the power seats only operating one side is an indication of a failure in one of the power seat motor cables. What generally occurs is that the plastic housing that surrounds the power seat cable breaks causing that particular cable side to no longer function. Replacement of the power seat cable is the only repair.
Gerry's Quikc Fix Until you get a replacement Cable:
Thanks to Gerry Alexander for contributing to this FAQ!
A easy and inexpensive way to fix this Ive found is using fuel line hose. The problem occurs when the hard plastic sheath breaks and allows the internal cable to essentally pop out or unseat from its gear ends. Ive found that if I take a small piece of fuel hose..(or any other tight fitting hose for that matter) and use as an elbow it fixed my problem seats. Basically you dismantle the assembly, pull out the internal cable, plug one end of the new hose into broken plastic sheath and jam the other end of the sheath into the hoses other side. Essentially you want to use the hose to act as an elbow to hold the sheath together at about the same length. If you do this right...the internal cable will once again be held properly seated inside the sheath and will turn the gear once you hit the seat recline button. It took me several trys and you must make sure you adjust both sides of the seat back to be even...but i finally beat this thing and it only cost me about a dollar.
