Automatic Transmission Removal
| STEP 1 | Lift Car up off the ground (preferably a lift) & cover the fenders |
| STEP 2 | Remove the intake cover with hoses and mass air meter |
| STEP 3 | Remove the battery cables & the battery |
| STEP 4 | Undo the battery negative lead on the transmission |
| STEP 5 | Remove the transmission dipstick pipe but clean around it first & plug hole |
| STEP 6 | Remove the intake hose from the transmission. |
| STEP 7 | Remove the transmission lever nut & remove the lever |
| STEP 8 | Remove the cable connector from the side of the transmission & release |
| STEP 9 | Unplug the transmission electrical connectors (behind the battery) |
| STEP 10 | Remove the oxygen sensor connectors |
| STEP 11 | Remove the + battery cable |
| STEP 12 | Remove the 3 upper bolts on the transmission |
| STEP 13 | Remove engine pressure by using lifting beam 8394850 (or similiar) |
| STEP 14 | Remove the front tires |
| STEP 15 | Remove oxygen sensor cables (if not already done) |
| STEP 16 | Remove the exhaust header pipe and Flex pipe (to avoid damage) |
| STEP 17 | Drain the transmission fluid (not absolutely necessary) Plug torque 20 ft-lb's |
| STEP 18 | Remove the transmission cooler lines for the radiator & plug them with rags |
| STEP 19 | Remove the air shields |
| STEP 20 | Remove the ball joints from the suspension arms |
| STEP 21 | Remove the 2 nuts for the rear engine mount and the 2 mid sub frame bolts |
| STEP 22 | Remove the sub frame completely (make sure engine is supported at top |
| STEP 23 | Remove the left-hand drive shaft & release it from its splines |
| STEP 24 | Hold the drive shaft out of the way with a strap |
| STEP 25 | Remove the flywheel splash plate |
| STEP 26 | Remove the 6 converter bolts by rotating the flywheel for access |
| STEP 27 | Remove the rear bolt in the mating surface engine/transmission. |
| STEP 28 | Remove the retaining bolts for the front engine mounting |
| STEP 29 | Remove the transmission rear engine mount |
| STEP 30 | Lower the car to the floor. |
| STEP 31 | Remove the transmission |
| STEP 32 | Refit in reverse & fil with Fill with Texaco Texamatic DEXRON III |
