IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES |
Ignition switch problems are common issues on Saab. What typically happens is that the electrical portion of the ignition switch fails which results in issues such as no start, no dash lights, no warning lights etc.... When you turn the ignition switch the dash lights for all the gauges should immediately turn on. If they do not then that is a good indication that your ignition switch should be replaced.
To save some money first I dismounted the electrical part of the switch by drilling the rivet. I have cleaned the contacts and installed the switch. Works fine. There is a good indicator of the status of the contacts. Turn the key to ON, but don't start the motor and check the battery voltage. If it is incredible low (like 6-9V) then the contacts are getting dirty meaning that the ignition switch must be replaced.
